About our Electorate

Riverton is a thriving community in Perth's southeast, situated about 14 kilometres from Perth.

The State Electorate of Riverton is named after the suburb within and comprises the suburbs of Brentwood (partially), Bull Creek, Leeming (partially), Mount Pleasant (partially), Riverton, Rossmoyne, Shelley, Willetton.

Our Electorate will soon be joined by Parkwood at the 2025 State Election on March 8th.

Riverton derives its name from its location on the banks of the Canning River. The area was subdivided in 1914, and Riverton was referred to locally as Riverton Bridge in 1937 to avoid confusion with the South Australian suburb of Riverton. This name was never formally approved and officially the suburb has always been Riverton.

Riverton was created at the 1988 redistribution, replacing the abolished district of Clontarf, which had been a safe Liberal seat since a redistribution prior to the 1977 election.

Riverton was first contested at the 1989 election, and has previously been held by Labor MLA Tony McRae from 2001 to 2008.

We are extremely lucky to call this area home. From the beautiful Shelley foreshore and beach along the Canning River, to the luscious greens of the Melville Glades Golf Course, ours is an area that really does have it all.
